Gainer precision

Watch this video and you’ll probably make a judgement about if its Parkour or Free running - tbh it doesn’t matter… it’s actually just breaking free of conventions, rules and expectations and finding your own limits with the abilities you have. Whether the 14yr old Slovak guy is a one hit wonder or a real talent for the future remains to be seen. Lets hope Cionn points a camera at him a few more times to capture the good stuff, check it:

Who is Wayne Dalglish?

I found this months ago and didn’t post it cause I wanted to write up a little article, but forgot. This is Wayne Dalglish. Those that have been into the martial arts bo-staff scene should know.. and those that follow the OC might know too… but most others? Well I doubt it. I first found this little crazy kid going nuts with his stick and googled a bit more and eventually came to the conclusion that he’s a talented creative guy.

Not sure whether his tricking has taken a back seat whilst other media opportunities arise for him, but until then, I can only hope that FreerunLA or Wayne himself will post up a little more recent gym footage. Until then, check this out and make sure you’re at least aware of the name:

Thursday gym update

Gym last night. What happened?

From a rather crap warm up, where I did bugger all accept chat to my mate, we started a few lines of flips to really get things going. This is normally where I decide if the night is going to be a good one or a bad one. Prior to the session I had several painkillers, a bar of Bournville Dark Chocolate, a packet of Scampi crisps and half a packet of cheesey crisps: loaded up on calories and sugar, failure is impossible.

I set myself up to try handspring punch fronts, and whilst I didn’t nail them as such - the momentum was there. I actually realised that I’ve got to get my handsprings much better first before flipping out of them. In time tho. Loads of cartwheel side sumi’s, and a few round off backflips with a few kicks in the air… dunno what that’s called, flash kicks possibly? anyways, I did about 3 kicks in the air on each, so that was nice. I felt like a ninja.

Then I ended up on the long trampet thing, trying front sumi’s to front punch out - got a few of those and then moved on to doing the biggest pike fronts I could. I need to get a few of those on film, cause they feel great/high/styled and nice.

Back on the floor, I drilled a few standing back tucks with the proper technique, ie: straight up all the way looking forwards, then a delayed rotation, landing perfectly flat on my feet. I still need to try grabbing the backs of my legs, but that should be a piece of cake. Next up: A few handstands on the bars, the first couple are always great, followed by me getting progressively worse until I give up. Dunno why that is yet, maybe I’m tired at that point?

Finally I ended up having a pit session throwing various gainers, websters attempts and… oh yeah… I’m mucking about with delayed extended r/o backflips, i’ll have to film them, because I can’t remember what they’re called. The final thing worth mentioning is switch btwists. I’ve been drilling regular ones for ages, but they feel pointless because I’m spinning the wrong way to combo… so I began figuring them out in the opposite ‘wrong’ way. They turned out to be a piece of cake. I really surprised myself.

Soo…. a good night in all. Looking forward to monday or tuesday when I can go do it all again. I’ve had a week off from filming, but I’ll be sure to document the latest at the next session.

Thats all: out - mark

7mins of Scheveningen tricks.

A big gathering in the sun at the beach, loads of great flips and nice mellow music. 7mins may be a marathon in youtube terms, but if there was a tricking TV channel, I’d imagine this would play quite nicely on it. The appearance of security guards at the end becomes a reminder that just having a blast somewhere with mates, freaks people out and causes complaints. Nothing to do with the flippers, nothing to do with anything being dangerous, just purely because of specators being scared easily. Its a crime to frighten the public kids! Tho, I like to think that the guards were actually pretty cool and were just chatting to the guys (it is the Netherlands after all).

FINALE Norske Talenter FRIKAR

Now bear in mind that firstly this is from a dance company and secondly people in Norway are as mad as a box of rabied badgers ;) … The Fikar crew were the only acrobatic based group to get to the final of Norways Got Talent. Expect acrobatics, free-running, tricking, dancing… and umm… a deers skull dropping in from the ceiling! (I’ve no-idea either)

flip training: butterfly-japan

I love watching videos from across the world showing how and where other people train. Hence the reason I like posting stuff from little known countries up here when ever I find them. This video from the butterfly crew, caught my eye, because of the all wooden environment. The flips aren’t incredible but you get to see how someone on the otherside of the world is living and … uhh I dunno, maybe I’m alone in liking this stuff! I love the ending, them all cleaning up the floor, you wouldn’t get that happening in England!

Hotel life / Sayhi flips

I’m in london for a few days working, and I’m gutted I couldn’t get to the gym last night, even tho I went on Monday evening and will be going on Thursday too - go figure.

Anyways… whilst I’m sitting here in a cheap hotel leeching free wifi from some router named ‘Chirby’ from the building next door, this does give me a chance to catch up with all the videos that have been posted lately. And what better than to find one from Mr Sayhi… quite a few people know of the nopacnone channel, but this from his own. Its the usual gym-friendly, non-agressive, clean-flipping, laid-back-ness that we all come to expect…

11yr old Jacob Pinto

Check out this little dude, if he’s this good now, whats he gunna be like when he’s.. erm… 12? Watch then go rate, comment and subscribe, its only fair:

How to get £5million for a tricking facility

Facilities for young people in the UK suck. I know it and I’m 35.

The biglotteryfund in the UK has announced £190m for young peoples facilities over the next 3 yrs. Divide that between the 10 main regions in England and that’s £19m each. Divide that by the 3yrs and you get about £6.6m per region per year. So if you, like me, live in the South West, you’ve got a real fighting chance of getting between 1 and 5 million pounds for pretty much whatever you can dream up.

Smart people, will have thought about facilities already, i’m not just talking about traditional facilities either, how about a massive parkour, free running, bboy, acrobat, tricking training facility in a full web friendly environment like Woodward in the US?

Oh yeah, that got your attention didn’t it?

The thing is. If you’re between 15-24 and have a damn fine idea that includes everyone, excludes no-one, works on getting people off their lazy arses and fit and healthy… then you need to stand up now and start drumming up support for it.

Its no good, hoping someone else will do it, cause life doesn’t work like that. Look, I’ll even help you out by telling you what you have to do to get it:

1: Write down your idea - do 1 paragraph outlining the basic idea, and then the rest fill with as many details and fun stuff as you can think up.

2: Get some numbers - visit your local spot and write down the numbers of people, the age ranges and the types of activities they do, every visit until you have at least a months worth of info: 30 days

3: Collect visuals. Showing what you do, how and where you do it, who you do it with and show the health aspects too. The more people looking happy and healthy in the sunshine the better

4: Walk into your nearest Youth Centre with all your info and tell them you want to speak to someone that can help you make an application to the Big Lottery Fund.

That’s it. Well its not, but its the start of it.

That last step, will be the biggest f*ckin brain explosion youth workers will have had in years. In fact i’m guessing most of them will shit their pants with excitement, because things like this, like you’ve just done, rarely happen.

A young person, being 1) organised and 2) passionate and 3) motivated about anything that isn’t purely selfish is for them, like finding a suitcase full of stolen 20s at the end of the rainbow.

What will happen next, will envolve them filling in forms and you not budging from your fantastic idea for as long as it takes.

Finally, sit back and wait for them to tell you when they’ve got the cash.

Simple. Like the idea? Going to give it a go? good… tell me about it.

Ryan Doyle - WILD: action sequences

thank god this dropped in my inbox rather than some god awful power rangers flick.

‘WILD’ from what I can make out is a sci-fi flick by Evilstuff dude ‘Terry’ (I know bugger all about this btw, I’m just making it up as I go along). So anyways… Tezza spotted r’kid Ryan tanked up on Stella and asked him if he wanted to star in some space-cadet zombie-esque ninja dream sequence movie… Ryan, said ‘go on then, any chance I can kick the shit outta some people please?’ …. and the deal was done.  (That’s how I like to think it happened anyway) … Check it:
